
What is Mentalization?
As humans, we always seek to understand why someone responds in a certain way: what are their intentions and what do they hope to achieve?
As humans, we are constantly navigating relationships in all aspects of our lives including friendships, colleagues, partners and with our children. Relationships can be complex, but can also be a source of joy and enable us to feel connected, valued and loved. However, sometimes we can encounter difficulties within our relationships with others that can cause distress and difficulties in our day to day functioning. This may be in one particular relationship, for example with our partner, or we may notice patterns that repeat in our interactions with multiple people. We might for instance start to experience similar feelings within all of our relationships, for example mistrust or fear of abandonment.
