Everyone goes through periods of feeling low or down, but sometimes this feeling can persist for weeks, months or longer.  Depression can present very differently in different people. It is a term that is used to understand a collection of experiences that can include: ongoing low mood or sadness, a sense of emptiness and lack of enjoyment, feeling hopeless or helpless, low self-esteem, guilt, anger, irritability, low motivation, difficulty in thinking clearly or making decisions, anxiety, thoughts of wanting to end your life and self-harm.
